Carlos Ghosn is chairman
and chief executive officer of Renault S.A.and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., two
global automotive companies. With a
combined work force of 350,000 employees, the two companies generated a
combined revenue of 135 billion dollars in 2008. The Renault-Nissan Alliance ranks third among
all global automakers with global sales of 6.8 million units in 2008.
Mr. Ghosn was
appointed as chief executive officer of Renault
S.A.
in May 2005 and its chairman in
May 2009.
Mr. Ghosn joined
Nissan as its chief operating officer in June 1999, following the establishment
of the Renault-Nissan Alliance in March 1999. He was appointed chief executive officer in June 2001. Under his leadership, Nissan successfully
delivered its revival plan, returning the company to significant growth and
profitability.
Before he joined
Nissan, Mr. Ghosn had served as executive vice president of the Renault Group,
a position he had held since December 1996. From 1981 to 1996, he worked with Michelin.
Mr. Ghosn is a member
of the board of Alcoa. He is also a member of: the World Economic Forum
Foundation Board, the International Advisory Board of Itau-Unibanco, the
European Round Table of Industrialists and the Electrification Coalition (
Washington
D.C.
based).
Mr. Ghosn earned engineering degrees
from
Ecole Polytechnique,
France
, in 1974 and from Ecole des
Mines de Paris in 1978.

Mr. Ghosn was born in Brazil on March 9, 1954. He and his wife, Rita, have four children.
